According to E! Online, Ridley Scott has announced plans to direct an Alien prequel. While the script hasn't even been written yet, fans everywhere should get somewhat excited: he is the man who created the series and is one of the best science fiction directors ever (anyone who doubts the awesome of Blade Runner shall be punished).
I feel two things: first, I'm glad he's returning to the syfy (*rimshot*) genre, as I like those movies a lot more than I've liked any of his others (Gladiator is the exception). Buuuut, I'm not the biggest Alien fan on the planet. I found it plodding and boring, although I'm sure it was groundbreaking at the time. It would've been more of a boon to get James Cameron to agree to it, as he created the best entry in the series. Oh well.
Alien nerds (and Chris), here's your chance to make everyone forget Resurrection and the two horrible AVP movies.
